Six sentences from WALLS FOR THE WIND

Six sentences from Western historical novel WALLS FOR THE WIND:

“I’ve seen him before, but never in the town itself. What do you suppose his game is?” Patrick asked.
“By gorry, I’d guess faro. Or maybe roulette,” Seamus answered with a faint smirk.
“Ah, God save me from the mockery of jokesters. I only meant, what do you think he’s doing up there? He’s a gambler, so why is he awake at this hour of the day? What is he plotting up there like a slavering pallid wolf?”
