Tagline: Two souls in pain, two hearts in need of rescue.
Blurb:
Garrett Saunders' world changed two years ago on a road in
Afghanistan. Back home, he feels like a stranger. As he
struggles to find his place in the world, he meets a horse
destined for the slaughterhouse and a woman bent on
rescuing the strays of the world, including him.
Blair Greyson moves to Masonville to look after her ailing
grandfather and give her rescue horses a home. Right away
she butts heads with a surly former Marine. Despite a rocky
start, they come to an agreement: Blair will board Garrett's
rescue horse and he'll help with repairs around her farm.
Garrett finds purpose working with Blair—and falls in love with
her. But she's hiding a secret. Can she forgive herself and
accept Garrett's love, or will she let guilt and regret continue
to rule her life?
Excerpt:
He pushed himself to his feet, disconcerted by his unsteadiness.
He made a few halting steps toward the gate as Blair ran into
the yard.
“I forgot my sweater,” she said, grabbing the garment from the
back of a chair and slipping it on. “It’s cooler than I thought. Are
you sure you don’t want to watch the fireworks with us?”
“No, I—”
His words were cut off by a loud explosion, and his only thought
was that he had to protect Blair. He grabbed her and threw her
to the ground, covering her body with his. He was under attack.
Why was Blair in Afghanistan? How could he keep her safe?
Through the chaos and noise he heard her muffled voice
beneath him. “Garrett, you’re crushing me.”
He shifted his weight slightly. “Shh. I’m sorry. You have to stay
down and quiet. I can’t let them hurt you.”
She stopped struggling. “Who’s going to hurt me?”
“Can’t you hear the mortar fire? I have to protect you.”
Her hand rubbed his back in gentle circles. “It’s all right, Garrett.
It’s only fireworks. It can’t hurt us. We’re safe here.”
He lifted his head and looked around. He was in Cole and Lauren
’s back yard in Masonville. There were no bombs, no shelling,
no Taliban. He looked down into Blair’s face, into the pity in her
eyes. He rolled off her, disgusted with himself.
Disgusted and scared. He was losing his mind.
Author Bio:
When Jana Richards read her first romance novel, she
immediately knew two things: she had to commit the stories
running through her head to paper, and they had to end with a
happily ever after. She also knew she’d found what she was
meant to do. Since then she’s never met a romance genre she
didn’t like. She writes contemporary romance, romantic
suspense, and historical romance set in World War Two, in
lengths ranging from short story to full length novel. Just for fun,
she throws in generous helpings of humor, and the occasional
dash of the paranormal. Her paranormal romantic suspense
“Seeing Things” was a 2008 EPPIE finalist.
In her life away from writing, Jana is an accountant/admin
assistant, a mother to two grown daughters, and a wife to her
husband Warren. She enjoys golf, yoga, movies, concerts,
travel and reading, not necessarily in that order. She and her
husband live in Winnipeg, Canada. She loves to hear from

Founding Sheriff

FOUNDING SHERIFF
by Edward Massey

Apprenticed as a cooper in England before he emigrated, sent to the Summit Mission to be the cooper, and once there was asked to be the constable. When the Territory was created, it created a county, and he became the sheriff. The sheriff investigates a girl murdered in her bed and tracks her husband who escaped in Grandma’s buggy.
Capturing him in the high mountains in Bonanza Flat, the founding sheriff decides not to kill the son of a bitch and sets in motion a long and broken path to a tradition of justice where none existed before in Summit County, Utah Territory.
Capture comes swift. Conviction takes longer. Execution drags on for years.
Life in a growing frontier town that starts with six people and no buildings either demands frontier justice or unfolds its apparent willingness to assist the murderer’s effort to avoid his fate.
Indian troubles, vigilantes’ murderous justice, and a railroad hell-on-wheels town threaten the founding sheriff ’s promise to the murdered girl’s mother.

Excerpt
Please don’t.”
Kat’s whispered plea was so quiet that Ev almost didn’t hear it. He sat up rapidly checking the campsite for intruders. Then she begged again louder.
“No, please. I promise. I’ll do anything you want.”
He swiveled to look at her and was held agog by the sight.
She sat in her shirtsleeves. Sweat gleamed her face. She held the buffalo robe at arm’s length, bunched material clutched in each hand.
“This is wrong. You can’t be so cruel.” Her voice continued to rise. “Please don’t ask me to sell myself. I’m not a whore.”
Releasing her hold on the robe, she let it fall to the ground then began to wrestle the covering as if fighting for her life.
At the thud of her fists against the robe covered earth, Ev leapt from his bedroll. Coming up on Kat from behind, he knelt and secured her in a bear hug. He didn’t want to hurt her, but feared that she would harm herself. She was scorching hot to the touch. Fever-born delirium possessed her, and she shifted from fighting the buffalo robe to fighting Ev, twisting and turning to get better aim at him.
This was not good. He had to snap her out of it.
“Kat! I’m not asking you to whore.”
Her hands stilled against his chest, and she blinked at him. “Really? Oh Herbert, I knew you wouldn’t want me to do that. You really do love me.”
Who in Hades is Herbert?
That was Ev’s last thought before Kat plastered her lips to his, filling his head with sweet surprise and his body with sweeter agonies.
Momentum brought him to the ground, and her legs tangled with his.
Her mouth was soft. Her breasts pressed warm against his chest. He pulled her closer and gave himself to madness.
She twined her arms around his neck then ran her tongue along the seam of his lips.
He opened, licked, tasted, groaned. She was sweet like honeysuckle, delicate like silk, like heaven, everything he wanted.
Her fingers stroked his shoulders, his arms, his chest. Cool air and hot woman struck his skin. She’d unbuttoned his shirt.
His blood boiled with longing. His body hardened. He wanted, needed, to be inside her, love her, make her his.
Her hips moved, undulating against his erection. He had to have her.
“Please, make love with me, Herbert.”
Forever afterward, Ev would associate ice cold water with the name Herbert. Nothing could have doused his ardor more effectively.
“No. I can’t do this. We can’t do this.”
Bracing her hands against his chest, she levered herself up. Delirium still burned in her eyes “We’ve already done this. How can you refuse me?”
As gently as he could, Ev took her by the waist and lifted her from his body. “Simple. I’m saying no.”
“You think I’m good enough to whore for you, but I’m not fit to be your lover. After all your demands, you’d deny me. I won’t let you.” She clawed and scratched at Ev, twisting against him and breaking his grip.
He scrabbled to restrain her, but her flailing arms went everywhere. He managed to secure one wrist. Before he could move to grasp the other, she swung and connected with his eye.
“Stop this now!”
As if struck, she went rigid then collapsed with a moan into a shivering, still sleeping heap against Ev’s chest.
He hurried to wrap her in the buffalo robe, built up both fires, and buttoned his shirt then donned his boots and coat. He checked on Kat who, despite the heat of the fires, her own fever and the robe, continued to shiver. The chill air had him doing a bit of shivering himself. He took a minute to consider his alternatives and noticed that the sky had lightened. Dawn was breaking.

Ladies' Wagering Whist Society

When love is a gamble, place your bets on the Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society.
The women of the Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society gather every Wednesday for an on-going game of whist, but while most people play cards for money, the ladies of the Wagering Whist Society play for secrets. The person with the fewest number of points at the end of a game must divulge her deepest, darkest secret. Not a word of anyone’s secret may be shared outside of the group, but that doesn’t mean that the ladies can’t offer assistance to anyone who needs it—and they all do at one point or another.
This nine book Regency romance series, spread out over three seasons, is filled with laughter, hidden identities, private fears, adorable children, secrets, and the sweetest Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Duchess. Each book features one of the eight members. Book number nine will feature Joshua Powell, Viscount Wickford, owner of Powell’s Club for the Refined Gentleman. Every book is a stand alone novel with at least one central romance and a secondary second-chance romance featuring an older couple.
Love is what the Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society does best. Whether it’s helping their own members or those close to them, the women of the Wagering Whist Society find that they’ve gotten quite good at helping couples arrange their cards just right.

A Hand for the Duke, published in 2019
Jack of Diamonds, published in 2019
The Games She Played, published in 2019
A Trick of Mirrors, published in 2020
A Bid for Romance, published in 2020

A Trick of Mirrors

The Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society, Book 4

Can the Ladies of the Wagering Whist Society help sort out a love quadrangle?
It’s not that the practical Beatrice Kendrick doesn’t trust her mirror twin, the vivacious and flirtatious Isabel. It’s just that the rebellious Bel has proven herself all too capable of welcoming the attentions of the wrong sort of man. So to keep Bel from getting into trouble, Bee secretly accompanies her when she makes her debut in Regency London. Can Bee shield her own heart while trying to protect her sister? And can Bel ensure that her quiet sister gets a taste of the joys of London society – and a chance at romance?
When the broodingly romantic Edward Conway, nursing a broken heart, meets musically inclined Bel Kendrick, she stirs a passion in him he wasn’t sure he could ever feel again after the death of his Italian lover. The strappingly handsome Paul St. Vincent, too, meets the thoughtful and clever woman he thinks is Bel, and she seems to be just the sort of intellectually-minded woman he’s looking for. Only sometimes Edward senses that Bel doesn’t always remember what they’d discussed the last time they met. And at times she is entirely too giggly for Paul’s taste.
Both men, however, have decided that Miss Kendrick is the right woman for him. What they don’t realize is that they’re both right. But it will take a little sleight of hand by the ladies of the Wagering Whist Society to untangle this trick of mirrors.

Kim McMahill author interview

Author Interview with Kim McMahill

Q: First, tell us a little about yourself.
A: I grew up in Wyoming which is where I developed my sense
of adventure and love of the outdoors. I started out writing
non-fiction, but my passion for exotic world travel, outrageous
adventures, stories of survival, and happily-ever-after endings
soon drew me into a world of romantic suspense and
adventure fiction. I’ve had the opportunity to live in many
beautiful places in the United States and travel the world, but
I’m thrilled to finally be back home.

Q: What book would you like to discuss today and why?
A: Although Big Horn Storm is not a new release, after my
publisher was bought out the new publisher redesigned all
of my book covers, so it feels new to me. Also, Big Horn Storm
is special since it has more ties to my life than most novels I
write and it’s the only contemporary western that I’ve written
to date. The main “horse” character, Storm, is modeled after a
horse I had growing up. He definitely had attitude and a
fondness for females. My family spent a great deal of time
camping, riding, and fishing in the Bighorns, so the location
holds a lot of memories. And, I couldn’t have written several of
the horseback escape scenes without experiences to draw
upon. Most notably, the most dramatic “Man from Snowy
River” scene (you’ll know it when you get to it) is based on an
experience I had as a teenager while rounding up some cattle
that had decided to take a very steep shortcut off a mountain.
Though I’m sure I remember it much more dramatic than it
actually was, the adventure still helped me craft the scene.

Q: Tell us a bit more about Big Horn Storm.
A: The novel is a contemporary western romantic adventure
set in rugged mountain country. The story combines a
too-close-to-home military crisis, a traumatic accident, a
terrifying bear encounter, heart-pounding horseback escapes,
and an attempt to reconcile the past in an action-packed
thriller. Here’s the blurb:
Niki Garat tolerates her job and the city, but she lives for her
summer vacation with her grandfather at his sheep camp in
the stunning Big Horn Mountains of Wyoming—until this year.
When the U.S. comes under attack, including an aggressive
attempt by foreign invaders to locate nuclear missile silos
scattered throughout remote western lands, the serenity of
her mountain refuge is shattered. As area ranches are
commandeered, neighbors and friends, including Deuce, her
childhood infatuation, band together. Throughout their struggle
to stay alive, Niki begins to understand what came between
her and Deuce, but before past mistakes can be corrected
they must endure a terrifying manhunt and a desperate fight
for survival.

Q: If you were not a writer, what vocation would you pursue?
A: I always dreamed of being an archaeologist, but when
looking into college majors I thought I should pursue
something more practical. I have enjoyed a rewarding career
with the National Park Service, but writing action, adventure,
and suspense allows me to explore and solve mysteries and
go on exciting expeditions. My goal in the next phase of my
life is to find and take advantage of volunteer opportunities to
participate on digs.

Q: Which genre or genres do you write or prefer to write? And why?
A: I write romantic suspense and action adventure novels. I
read books and watch movies almost exclusively in this genre.
I love adventures in far-flung locations, fast-paced action, and
of course all good stories need a touch of romance.

Q: What gets your creative juices flowing?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from an exciting trip, whether
domestic or abroad. Every time I travel, I see settings for a
novel, situations to embellish, and physical and personality
traits in strangers that I need to incorporate into a character.

Q: Who would you love most to meet 'in person' and why?
A: Actually, I recently had the opportunity to meet James
Rollins at a discussion and book signing. He was interesting
and entertaining. I’ve read every book he’s written under
James Rollins and I aspire to write such captivating and
suspenseful novels. He was definitely the top writer on my list
to meet.

Q: What are you working on now?
A Measure of Madness, book 4 in my Risky Research Series,
is undergoing edits with my publisher and editor. No release
date has been set yet. In between rounds of edits I’m working
on the fifth and final installment in the series which will bring
readers back to where it all began in Wyoming.
